Well, it looks like Athletics might actually get the necessary approval from MLB to build a new ballpark in the city of San Jose. The A’s, mired in a three-year stadium debacle, might have some clarity in regards to their bid for a new venue relatively soon. According to a tweet released on Twitter by USA Today writer Bob Nightengale, the A’s will be granted approval for a new ballpark by February.

Rumors are rumors, but given the fact that the A’s have waited nearly three years for an answer, the team should be nearing a resolution to their stadium problem. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig appointed a special committee to oversee and analyze the A’s stadium options, but have yet to release a public recommendation about their findings.

A’s owner Lew Wolff and General Manager Billy Beane have remained cautiously optimistic about their team’s chances at getting a new ballpark built. Beane, who has already traded star pitchers Trevor Cahill and Gio Gonzalez this month, is stockpiling young prospects and hopes to develop those prospects in the coming years. The hope is that these young prospects like the ones received in the Cahill and Gonzalez trades will develop into stars by the time a new stadium is built. (more…)

After getting slammed, and I mean literally slammed, by the New York Yankees on Thursday in the Bronx, the Oakland Athletics fell to 59-71 on the season and are still searching for meaning in this mostly meaningless season. The Athletics took two out of three from the Yankees, but that finale was so embarrassing I find it hard to believe that this squad of A’s actually took two of three from the Bronx Bombers. Perhaps luck was on their side during the first two games, I don’t know.

The A’s this season have been a mystery, much like the ones featured on FOX’s drama House, except there is no Gregory House in the real world to solve the many problems that currently stand in front of the Oakland A’s organization.

Obviously the biggest mystery is the one regarding the future of the A’s stadium situation. The A’s currently reside in O.co Coliseum, which they share with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders. O.co Coliseum, formerly known as the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, is an outdated stadium unfit for any major league franchise. Hell, it’s probably unfit for any high school baseball team. As most of you probably already know, the Coliseum which houses the NFL’s Oakland Raiders and MLB’s Oakland A’s was renamed this year as The Overstock.com Coliseum. The Athletics have spent the last few years trying to find the team to a new stadium, and while efforts have definitely been made, there have been no major developments in getting a new stadium.

A’s co-owner Lew Wolff has “exhausted” all options in Oakland, and is trying to relocate the team to San Jose. The small-market A’s believe the new city and new stadium would help generate some much needed revenue to compete with the big boys in baseball like the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig appointed a special committee to evaluate Oakland’s stadium options, but after months of evaluations, the A’s organization is still left waiting for solution.

The A’s would need approval before moving to San Jose, a territory that belongs to the reigning World Champion San Francisco Giants.  (more…)
