A’s 2011 Attendance Numbers At A Glance
Despite losing more games in 2011, the Oakland Athletics posted better attendance numbers this year versus the 2010 season. Oakland did, however, rank last in the majors with an attendance of 1,476,792 for the 2011 season. That number is up, though, from 2010′s 1,418,391 home attendance total. The A’s have been treading water for the past few seasons, with the organization falling deeper and deeper into irrelevancy. Fans of the green-and-gold haven’t had much to smile about these past few years and the low attendance numbers are a reflection of the growing frustration within the A’s fan-base. General manager Billy [...]
A’s Stadium Update: Not Much Has Changed
Nearly three years after Bud Selig appointed a special committee to oversee all of Oakland’s stadium options, the A’s still remain in limbo. The A’s remain prisoners in the confining cavern that is O.co Coliseum, and MLB isn’t doing much to help free the A’s. General manager Billy Beane and the rest of the A’s front office are being held as captives of this on-going stadium issue, and as a result, cannot layout any long-term plans. Not being able to plan accordingly could do some serious damage to the A’s. For a team that missed the playoffs for a fifth-consecutive season [...]
Bud Selig Continues To Play Guessing Game With A’s
With the season coming a close, the Oakland Athletics are still waiting around for Major League Baseball and Bud Selig’s evaluations regarding the team’s stadium options. Back in 2009, Selig appointed a “special” committee to evaluate the A’s stadium options, including options within the Athletics’ territory. Even after two years of research, Selig’s committee hasn’t yet provided any answers for Oakland’s stadium problem. Oakland’s owner, Lew Wolff, contends that all options in Oakland have been exhausted and wishes to relocate the club in San Jose. Wolff’s wishes, however, may not come to fruition, as the San Francisco Giants have the [...]
The Oakland Athletics haven’t played great baseball this season, but the A’s are not exactly rolling over just yet. The team has performed better since the All-Star break, going 14-11 since the break. Coming off a 10-3 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday, the Athletics will travel back to the bay area to host their division rivals Texas Rangers. While the A’s are sitting in third-place and well behind the Rangers for first-place in the AL West standings, it’s safe to say that the recent comments made by Rangers starter C.J. Wilson has breathed new life into the [...]
A’s Beane Expects Stadium Issue to Be Addressed Soon
Before the start of this season, the Athletics had tried to bring 3B Adrian Beltre and IF Marco Scutaro to Oakland. Unfortunately, the A’s front office could not persuade either player in joining the team for the 2010 season. Despite having a young rotation full of promise, the A’s Coliseum, which they share with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, is not particularly appealing to most free agents. The field is really depleted once football season starts. Also, what player would want to come to a coliseum that fails to attract more than 10,000 fans a night? With the A’s looking to [...]
Stadium Journey Takes A Look At A’s
With the Oakland A’s trailing the Texas Rangers in the AL West race by 7.5 games, it seems likely that the A’s will miss out on a chance to play in the post-season. They’ve had their opportunities, however, to make up some serious ground recently. As an optimist, however, I still hold out hope that the A’s will make a serious late—and I mean late—season run. But if they don’t catch Texas, however, there’s always next year. The A’s figure to be an even better team next season, especially since their pitching will more than likely continue their growth and [...]
Where Are the Fans?
Last night, the Oakland Athletics welcomed the defending world champs, but the coliseum was practically non-existent. I mean, c’mon! The Yankees are in town! It’s David vs. Goliath. What other reasons do people need in order to come see an A’s-Yanks game? The announced crowd of 19, 849 was only 56.6% of the Coliseum’s capacity (w/tarps). On top of that, Yankees fans showed up in larger numbers than A’s fans did. Or at least it seemed like it (there was too much blue in the crowd). Anyway, this recent showing of support only reinforces the fact that the Oakland Athletics [...]
A’s Future isn’t in Oakland
In 2009, the Oakland Athletics attracted a mere 1,408,783 fans to the Oakland- Alameda County Coliseum. With a 75-87 record, fans across the bay area had a hard time finding reasons to attend an A’s game. However, the A’s in ’09 did go 40-41 at home (.494WPCT) and outscored opponents, 402 to 348. However, their road woes hampered thier 2009 season. The A’s went 35-46 (.432WPCT) and were outscored, 357 to 413 on the road. Prior to the start of the 2009 season, many fans had high expectations, since the A’s added sluggers Matt Holliday, Jason Giambi and veteran leaders Orlando Caberera and Nomar [...]
