It could happen. (Photo Credit: AP)

Well, it looks like Athletics might actually get the necessary approval from MLB to build a new ballpark in the city of San Jose. The A’s, mired in a three-year stadium debacle, might have some clarity in regards to their bid for a new venue relatively soon. According to a tweet released on Twitter by USA Today writer Bob Nightengale, the A’s will be granted approval for a new ballpark by February.

Rumors are rumors, but given the fact that the A’s have waited nearly three years for an answer, the team should be nearing a resolution to their stadium problem. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig appointed a special committee to oversee and analyze the A’s stadium options, but have yet to release a public recommendation about their findings.

A’s owner Lew Wolff and General Manager Billy Beane have remained cautiously optimistic about their team’s chances at getting a new ballpark built. Beane, who has already traded star pitchers Trevor Cahill and Gio Gonzalez this month, is stockpiling young prospects and hopes to develop those prospects in the coming years. The hope is that these young prospects like the ones received in the Cahill and Gonzalez trades will develop into stars by the time a new stadium is built. (more…)

With the season coming a close, the Oakland Athletics are still waiting around for Major League Baseball and Bud Selig’s evaluations regarding the team’s stadium options. Back in 2009, Selig appointed a “special” committee to evaluate the A’s stadium options, including options within the Athletics’ territory.

Even after two years of research, Selig’s committee hasn’t yet provided any answers for Oakland’s stadium problem.

Oakland’s owner, Lew Wolff, contends that all options in Oakland have been exhausted and wishes to relocate the club in San Jose. Wolff’s wishes, however, may not come to fruition, as the San Francisco Giants have the territorial rights to San Jose.

Nevertheless, the A’s ownership and front office remain cautiously optimistic, and even GM/VP Billy Beane remains confident that a decision regarding the A’s possible move to San Jose will be made sooner or later.

Until a decision is made, however, the A’s are likely going to be very conservative about their spending this offseason. The A’s can’t survive for much longer, however, if they continue to operate season to season without a clear future. Beane has noted before in the past that Oakland has not been able to do much long-term planning as a result of the unclear stadium situation. (more…)

A's fans are growing tired of Bud Selig's handling of the A's current stadium situation. (Photo Credit: AP)

Here we are in mid-July, still searching for answers regarding the Oakland Athletics’ current stadium situation. The A’s currently play in one of the most outdated stadiums in baseball, and major league baseball is doing very little to change that. A’s co-owner Lew Wolff, who has been pushing for a new stadium since purchasing the team in 2005, wants the team out of Oakland.

If it were up to Wolff, the A’s would likely move to San Jose. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and the A’s are currently playing the waiting game while commissioner Bud Selig tries to dance around the A’s stadium issue. Selig appointed a special committee to help analyze all of Oakland’s viable stadium options back in 2009, but here we are in mid-July of 2011 without a clear solution. At the time, Selig noted that the A’s could not survive without a clear solution to their stadium situation: (more…)
