A’s 2011 In Review: Brett Anderson
Brett Anderson has long been considered one of Oakland’s brightest young pitchers, but injuries have limited the young lefty to just 32 starts over the past two years. This season was especially disappointing considering Anderson was forced to undergo Tommy John surgery this past July. He’s been making progress, but he’s not expected back in action until the second-half of the 2012 season at the earliest. At 23, though, these type of arm/shoulder injuries are not an encouraging sight for a young pitcher. Anderson was sidelined twice during the 2010 season due to elbow inflammation, and his 2011 season was [...]
Is Gio Gonzalez Waiting On The A’s?
Still awaiting on the word of MLB Comissioner Bud Selig, the Oakalnd Athletics are also seemingly waiting to offer star pitcher Gio Gonzalez a contract extension. Gonzalez, 25, represents one of Oakland’s top young arms, but the team has yet to offer an extension to the young southpaw. Oakland ironed out contract extensions for pitchers Brett Anderson and Trevor Cahill, but Gonzalez hasn’t really been approached by the team about an offer. Last year both Cahill and Gonzalez emerged onto the scene, winning a combined 33 games for Oakland, with Gonzalez pulling out 15 of those victories. He went 15-9 [...]
A’s Anderson Needs Surgery?
A’s fans, it’s definitely time to hit the panic button. As reported by Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, A’s young lefty Brett Anderson left the team to head back to Oakland to get his left-elbow checked out. Oakland’s already depleted starting rotation is now facing the possibility of losing Anderson, 23, to yet another injury plagued season. The A’s entered the season with one of the best starting rotations in baseball, but injuries to Dallas Braden, Brandon McCarthy, Rich Harden, and Tyson Ross, have derailed the A’s this season. Braden is out for the remainder of the season, [...]
A’s Preview: Brett Anderson
The A’s feature some very young and talented arms in their starting rotation, and southpaw Brett Anderson is one of them. Anderson, 23, is the future of the A’s rotation, so long as he manages to stay healthy. Last season, the lefty went 7-6 with a 2.80 ERA in just 19 starts. Two elbow injuries limited the southpaw to just 112 innings in 2010, but Oakland is confident that Anderson will enter camp fully healthy and ready to go. Oakland awarded Anderson with a four-year extension in April last year, and the A’s are hoping that Anderson can continue to [...]
MLB Star Search: A’s Brett Anderson
When the A’s started rebuilding after the 2007 season, they knew starting pitching would be an element for success. The A’s traded away Dan Haren to Arizona in exchange for group of talented young prospects. One of those prospects ended up being 2009 AL ROY Candidate, Brett Anderson. The A’s used Anderson as a starter in their young rotation last season. The results at first weren’t exactly great. Anderson’s ERA in four April starts was 5.01. It later ballooned to 6.38 for five May starts. And for five starts in June his ERA was 5.00. However, as the season progressed, [...]
