With less than one month to go before the regular season ends, the Oakland A’s are currently behind the first-place Rangers by 7.0 games. The Rangers (75-62) are 3-7 over their last 10, and are currently on a four-game skid. Meanwhile the A’s are 5-5 over their last 10. The Rangers’ lead in the west is still very comfortable, but the A’s are still hanging around in the division.
The A’s young core of arms is getting better with each passing day, and as a result of their growth, the team owns the league’s 4th best ERA (3.53). Guys like Brett [...]

A’s Still Chasing Texas
The Oakland A’s were swept away by the Yankees, thus meaning a trip to the postseason for the A’s is now highly unlikely. Entering Friday, the A’s sit 10.0 games back of the Texas Rangers for first-place in the American League West. The A’s will begin a three-game set against the visiting Angels as part of a nine game home-stand.
The A’s pitching staff had been incredible up until the series in New York, where the staff allowed 29 runs to cross home-plate. As a direct result, the A’s staff ERA rose to 3.56—which is still 4th best in the AL. [...]
A’s Fighting Injury Bug
Not to say that the A’s have ever been a healthy team, but this is just getting ridiculous. The A’s recently placed IF Adam Rosales, who was hitting .271/.321/.400 with 7 home runs and 31 RBIs, on the disabled-list. Mostly starting in a utility role this season for Oakland, Rosales had been quite the surprise this year. In fact, I’ve stated that I’d take Rosales over Cliff Pennington, who’s hitting .260/.334/.376 with 2 home runs and 31 RBIs, in the infield. Rosales was acquired via trade with the Reds over the offseason primarily as a utility player to add depth to [...]
A’s Call Up Top Prospect Carter
Rejoice, A’s fans. It’s the dawn of a new era, the Chris Carter era. On Monday, the A’s called-up their top prospect 1B/LF Carter, who made his debut against the Mariners in the A’s 1-3 loss. The A’s, who have been in a rebuilding mode for the past couple of seasons now, might finally be on their way to a much brighter future. Entering Monday, the A’s hit just 70 homers as a team (29th in MLB). Carter, who was the A’s top power-threat in the minors, left Triple-A Sacramento with 27 homers and 89 RBIs. Although his debut wasn’t [...]
A’s Ready For Texas
The A’s (50-48), head into Texas on Tuesday in the hopes of making a run at the first-place Rangers. Texas currently holds a 7.5 game advantage over Oakland in the AL West, largely because of their potent offense and surprisingly sharp pitching.
The A’s meanwhile sit in third-place and trail second-place Los Angeles by just a half game. The A’s young rotation looks to be without its veteran leader, Ben Sheets, but with Brett Anderson due back this weekend, the A’s rotation should prove effective.
The A’s are winners of nine of their last 11, and hope to continue their winning ways. [...]
While the Oakland A’s may be last in the league with just 52 team home runs, don’t expect A’s GM Billy Beane to call up top prospects Chris Carter and Michael Taylor any time soon. Aside from Carter and Taylor, the A’s do have some other talented prospects, who are playing the same waiting game that Carter and Taylor are.
Earlier this week, Swingin’ A’s had a Q&A session with A’s writer, Nathaniel Stoltz about the A’s minor league system. Topics included when fans can expect Carter and Taylor to see time in the majors, as well as other top prospects [...]
Never count out Billy Beane, not for a second. The guy is crazy, especially when it comes to dealing his players in trades. According to multiple sources, the A’s are thinking about dealing second baseman, Mark Ellis.
According to Jon Morosi of FOXSports, there’s a ‘40/60′ chance that Oakland would make Ellis available to other teams. The only thing standing in the way, however, is Ellis’ full-no trade clause. Ellis could, however, waive that clause if the team decides to deal him to a contending team.
Teams that could definitely use Ellis’ services include the Philadelphia Phillies, who are without Chase Utley, [...]
A’s Jackson Headed to DL
Ouch. It never seems to stop. The Oakland A’s have been bit once more by the pesky injury bug that seems to be roaming around with the rest of the team. Today, the A’s announced that OF Connor Jackson has been placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to July 1 with a left-hamstring injury.
Jackson, who was acquired in a trade with the Diamondbacks, was batting .267 with four RBIs in 14 games with the A’s. According to the A’s official site, this is the fourth stint on the DL for Jackson over the past three seasons. The A’s as a [...]
In another move to add even more depth to their pitching, the A’s added right-handed pitcher Boof Bonser. Bonser, 28, was released by the Boston Red Sox, but is expected to join Triple-A Sacramento immediately. A’s assistant GM, David Forst, hopes that the team will be able to stretch Bonser, who was a reliever with Boston, into a starter.
In other news, the A’s announced that SP Dallas Braden will not make his start on Saturday. The A’s obviously took the safe route here, since Braden hasn’t been comfortable enough to make the start. It was said that Braden wasn’t able [...]
A’s Need To Lock Up Kurt Suzuki
In years past, the Oakland Athletics have usually been reluctant to sign some of their most talented players to respectable contracts. This trend, however, needs to stop. In 2011, the Oakland A’s should have a pretty decent amount of spending money, as Eric Chavez ($12.5 million this season), and Ben Sheets ($10 million this season) will likely no longer be in Oakland.
This gives the A’s the chance to retain one of their most talented and brightest young players, Kurt Suzuki. Suzuki, who led the A’s last season with 88 RBIs, leads the team in home runs this season, with 10. [...]
