Bud Selig Continues To Play Guessing Game With A’s
With the season coming a close, the Oakland Athletics are still waiting around for Major League Baseball and Bud Selig’s evaluations regarding the team’s stadium options. Back in 2009, Selig appointed a “special” committee to evaluate the A’s stadium options, including options within the Athletics’ territory. Even after two years of research, Selig’s committee hasn’t yet provided any answers for Oakland’s stadium problem. Oakland’s owner, Lew Wolff, contends that all options in Oakland have been exhausted and wishes to relocate the club in San Jose. Wolff’s wishes, however, may not come to fruition, as the San Francisco Giants have the [...]
A’s Minor League Stadium Review: Banner Island Ballpark
The Oakland Athletics may not have one the best ballparks in baseball with their O.co Coliseum being heavily outdated and all, but at least their Single-A affiliate team is riding in style. To the Stockton Ports, Banner Island Ballpark is called “home,” and while it’s just a minor league stadium, it’s a heck of a lot better than that dumpy O.co Coliseum the Athletics call “home.” The A’s stadium situation remains an unsolved one, and MLB Commissioner Bud Selig really hasn’t taken much action except for appointing a “special” committee to review the team’s remaining stadium options in Oakland. Anyway, [...]
Should New Safety Measures For Fans Be Put In Place?
After the death of Ranger’s fan Shannon Stone who fell out of the stands during the July 7 game at Arlington Stadium while trying to catch a ball tossed toward him by Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton as well as the Fan that almost went over the railings but was saved from falling 20 feet below at this years All Star Home Run Derby, it comes as no surprise that both the MLB and stadiums around the country will be looking at implementing better or new safety measures be put in place for fans. I for one agree that the franchises [...]
A’s Fans To Selig: Can We Get An Answer Already?
Here we are in mid-July, still searching for answers regarding the Oakland Athletics’ current stadium situation. The A’s currently play in one of the most outdated stadiums in baseball, and major league baseball is doing very little to change that. A’s co-owner Lew Wolff, who has been pushing for a new stadium since purchasing the team in 2005, wants the team out of Oakland. If it were up to Wolff, the A’s would likely move to San Jose. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and the A’s are currently playing the waiting game while commissioner Bud Selig tries to dance around [...]
Will The A’s Ever Have A Sell Out Crowd Again?
A couple of Fridays ago, I went to the opening series A’s and Giants game. I was not surprised to see that it was literally a 36,067 fan full house due to the fact that it was a Bay Bridge series. It did get me thinking though. First, that it would be amazing to have the all of these fans come to all of the games and second, that it is a shame that Oakland still cannot get their act together for the proposal of a new stadium. Of course after the A’s swept the Giants, reality set in again [...]
Will The A’s Ever Move?
Yes, once again we are visiting the on going drama of when and if the Oakland A’s are going to get a new stadium and whether or not MLB commissioner, Bud Selig will ever make a decision to intervene on behalf of owner Lew Wolff as to where the A’s will end up. Especially, because back in January allegations surfaced that back in the early 2000′s the team had a chance to be bought and moved to Modesto by a shopping store mogul, but was basically blocked by both the MLB and of all entities The San Francisco Giants. [...]
A Look At Overstock.com Coliseum
As most of you probably already know, the Coliseum which houses the NFL’s Oakland Raiders and MLB’s Oakland A’s was renamed this year as The Overstock.com Coliseum. The Athletics have spent the last few years trying to find the team to a new stadium, and while efforts have definitely been made, there have been no major developments in getting a new stadium. A’s co-owner Lew Wolff has “exhausted” all options in Oakland, and is trying to relocate the team to San Jose. The small-market A’s believe the new city and new stadium would help generate some much needed revenue to [...]
The A’s addressed a few of their glaring problems on offense this offseason, and they also managed to strengthen their already strong pitching staff. Heading into the season, however, many fans (including myself) like to look at the team and predict what kind of year they’ll have. It’s both fun, and educational. Oakland signed DH Hideki Matsui to a one-year deal this offseason, and the team is optimistic that “Godzilla” will stay healthy enough to help the A’s offensively in 2011. Matsui, 36, however, has been on the decline for some time now. He hit .274 with 21 HR and [...]
Should The A’s Really Move To San Jose?
A couple of days ago there a blog that was published as to why the San Francisco Giants should give up their territorial rights to the Oakland A’s so that they can build a new stadium in San Jose. There are many reasons to move them to San Jose, but upsetting Giants fans by assuming that they will switch loyalties is not one of them. According to Adam Fusfeld of the Business Insider Sports Page, the A’s would benefit financially by making the several arguments as to why the A’s should be moved to the South Bay. The following are [...]
A’s May Have To Stay In Oakland
Is it true that the A’s may have to stay in Oakland due to a clause in their lease with the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum? The clause could stall a move to San Jose or out of the Bay Area. According to the Bay Citizen the following clause is stated: “Licensee [A's] shall not permit or cause to occur any event that may result in the transfer of its Franchise or any of its Home Games to any other city or location or do or fail to do anything which will cause its right to play major league professional baseball in [...]
