Welcome To Hotel Wolff
Welcome to Hotel Wolff, a five-star resort located in the heart of San Jose. According to a recent post featured on the San Francisco Chronicle, the A’s ownership purchased a luxury hotel located in downtown San Jose as an effort to strengthen its standing in city. The A’s are pushing hard for a new stadium and the organization has set its sights on the city of San Jose as their new home. The San Francisco Giants, however, contend that San Jose falls within their organization’s territorial rights and are trying to stop the A’s from violating those rights. A’s owner [...]
A’s Notes: Sizemore Not An Option, Anderson On the Mend?
Former Cleveland Indians Center fielder Grady Sizemore will not be playing for the Oakland A’s next season. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the A’s have no interest in the All Star player. Now, you may be asking yourself why the A’s, who have stated that all of their players, with the exception of 2B Jemile Weeks, are open to be traded, are not really interested in Sizemore. Well, it has to do with good ole money. The A’s are not ready to shell out a hefty payload to the lefty at this point. This has alot to do with, you guessed [...]
Good Ole Charlie Finley Nominated To Hall Of Fame
Looks like Charlie “O’ has managed to get himself nominated for the Baseball Hall Of Fame. The A’s often eccentric and erratic manager along with 9 other candidates will vie for the coveted honor of being on the Veterans Committee ballot next month. This is considered quite an honor for both the team and management, even though Finley was not the most well liked person by both fans, players, other teams and even politicians. This characterization of him however did not stop him from being one of the most successful managers in A’s history. During his tenure he was able to lead the team [...]
Will You Watch Moneyball?
Since the A’s won’t be making any playoff push this month, A’s fans can turn their undivided attention to the release of Brad Pitt’s movie adaptation of the critically acclaimed Michael Lewis book, Moneyball. Pitt, who portrays A’s GM Billy Beane, remained attached to the movie project for what seems like forever, and despite some early up’s and down’s, the movie is finally a reality. Moneyball follows the cash-strapped Athletics as they try to find a way to win despite having one of baseball’s lowest payrolls. It’s a story that many baseball fans have learned to love, and I’m pretty [...]
A’s Part Ways With Kevin Kouzmanoff
As reported by multiple sources including the team’s official site, the Oakland Athletics have parted ways with 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff. Kouzmanoff, who had been stuck in Triple-A Sacramento since June, will head to a Colorado team that might use Kouzmanoff as their everyday third baseman. Kouzmanoff, 30, entered this season as Oakland’s opening day starter at third base, but an extremely slow start on both offense and defense resulted in Kouzmanoff’s demotion to the River Cats. His first year in Oakland wasn’t exactly a good first impression, as his .247/.283/.396 slash line was lower across the board compared to his [...]
Tragedy Hits A’s/Rangers Game
Yesterdays game brought no cheering wins for the Texas Rangers. Instead, players were silent and still trying to cope with watching a fan fall over a 20 foot wall, trying to catch a foul ball that was thrown up to the fans by Texas Ranger left fielder Josh Hamilton. The video of the fall is undoubtedly upsetting and hard to watch. According to MercuryNews.com “Oakland’s Conor Jackson lined a foul ball into the left-field corner that ricocheted into fair territory. Rangers left fielder Josh Hamilton retrieved the ball and tossed it up to a male fan sitting in the first row behind [...]
Ross Set To Start With Sacramento Triple A
It looks like pitcher Tyson Ross is coming off the DL and back onto playing field. The Berkeley CA native has been cleared to play two rehabilition starting tonight for the Sacramento River Cats. MLB.com is reporting that, “the righty will likely pitch four or five innings but wasn’t completely sure about how long he will be stretched out, something manager Bob Melvin said he would address after Wednesday’s game against the Marlins.” Here’s my question. If Ross comes does well in these first two starts with Triple A, then where does that leave Guillermo Moscoso? Has his performance so [...]
Billy Beane Explains Geren Firing
Entering the 2011 season, the Oakland A’s were figured to be one of the better teams in the American League West. Hope surrounded the young A’s team that had a strong starting rotation capable of keeping the team competitive during the season, but injuries and a general feeling of frustration have the A’s nine-games under .500 in June. The team has come completely off the rails since March, as the team has dealt with various injuries to starting pitchers Brett Anderson, Dallas Braden, Tyson Ross, Brandon McCarthy, and Rich Harden. No amount of depth could’ve prepared the A’s for the [...]
Oakland A’s Fire Manager Bob Geren
In what has been a disappointing 2011 season, the Oakland A’s announced on Thursday that manager Bob Geren has been relieved of his duties. The recent downward spiral that has the team sitting in last place in the AL West, probably had a lot to do with the team’s decision to let Geren go. Filling in for Geren will be ex-Arizona Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin. Melvin, who was serving as a special baseball advisor for the Diamondbacks. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Melvin will officially take the reigns tonight in Chicago when the A’s begin their [...]
A’s Anderson & Ellis Land On DL; Weeks Called Up
On a day that they dropped their eighth consecutive game, the Oakland Athletics placed LHP Brett Anderson and 2B Mark Ellis on the 15-day disabled list. Injuries have killed the A’s before in the past, and this season is shaping up to be yet another injury plagued year. The A’s are already without pitchers Dallas Braden, Tyson Ross, Brandon McCarthy, and Rich Harden. With Anderson now joining that list, the A’s are left reevaluating themselves and as well as their plans for this season and beyond. Anderson was 3-6 with a 4.00 ERA in 13 starts prior to landing on [...]
