An open love letter to the Seattle Mariners
I know this may invite all kinds of bad mojo from some corners of the Interwebs, but I’m going to do it anyway: Thank you so much Seattle Mariners for lifting the A’s out of last place on the … um … strength? Sure, strength of your 16-game losing streak. Trust me, I feel your pain and this is simply gallows humor from one fan of a horrible team to another. It wasn’t all that long ago that the A’s were mired in a 10-game losing streak while players in Oakland and across the nation were coming out of the [...]
2011 Oakland A’s Not Worth Watching After Texas Series; Blasting Billy Beane, Franchise is Past Due
The Oakland A’s, as if it hadn’t been made clear already, is not a team worth watching, let alone a team with its eyes set on the division, after being swept by the Texas Rangers—a direct reflection on the team’s general manager, Billy Beane. The A’s were shut out for the 10th time on Thursday night, the first of a crucial four-game series with the AL West leading Rangers. They followed that up with being shut out for the 11th time on Sunday, and the A’s fell to 39-53 and are now 12 games back of first place. Under normal [...]
If you are a Yankees or Red Sox fan, you are going to have a harder time seeing them play against Oakland at home. This is due to scheduling of the 2011 season. Now, you may be saying to yourself, “well I am an A’s fan so I am not really feeling sorry for the other teams fans”. However, you should be concerned because it is hard enough to fill the Coliseum to capacity and this gives our wonderful owner, Lew Wolff one more reason to move the team out of Oakland. This season there are only going to be [...]
Are You Rooting For Chavez This Year?
This past winter the Oakland A’s cut ties with Eric Chavez by declining to pick up his $12.5 million option for the 2011 season. The move, which saved the A’s a ton of money, was a no-brainer as Chavez had been limited to just 154 games from 2007-2010 due to various injuries and set-backs. From 2000-2006, however, the A’s former Gold Glove winning third-baseman, averaged 28 HR and 94 RBIs per season. Knowing this, of course, made his eventual body-break down in Oakland all the more painful to watch. This season, however, Chavez’s body seems to be holding up well in [...]
FanSided All Division World Series: Vote Now!
Okay, it’s time. FanSided’s quest in naming baseball’s best all-divison roster is coming down to the wire. AL West fans, I’m sorry to announce that our division’s best were not named to the World Series. The AL East was named the AL’s best roster, and will face the NL East. It’s East vs. East! So, please show your support by voting for your World Series champion! You can vote by clicking here. Here’s a look at each roster below:
Why This Might Be Billy Beane’s Last Hurrah
This year, the Oakland Athletics should be receiving a little more attention this season, especially since there’s a movie coming out this fall about their team’s leader, General Manager, Billy Beane. The movie, which is an adaptation of Michael Lewis’ bestseller, Moneyball, stars Hollywood A-Lister Brad Pitt as Beane in the film. As if that weren’t enough pressure, the A’s are heading into the 2011 season with a vastly improved team. Add in that their cross-town rivals, the San Francisco Giants, won the World Series last year, and you easily have the makings for an intense, pressure-filled season. Of course, [...]
FanSided Bloggers Announce All-AL West Division Lineup
This month, the AL West Bloggers of the FanSided Network put together an offense (lineup) that features all of the division’s best as part of FanSided’s big MLB collaborative project that was announced earlier this month. Each writer voted during this selection process, and I must say all of the writers within the AL West division had similar tastes in talent. Representing your Oakland Athletics is Kurt Suzuki, who represents the West’s starting catcher. The Texas Rangers led the lineup with five players making the cut, while the Angels had two of their own make the lineup, and Seattle’s Ichiro [...]
The rivalry between the A’s and The S.F. Giants has and will always be on-going. When the Giants won the 2010 World Series I am sure that many A’s fans, including me, were not too happy. However, on the other hand, I would have rather seen them win than the Rangers who beat us out in the AL West. I am not one to hold a grudge when it comes to sports but it looks like some A’s fans have. Including one who has challenged Giants RP Brian Wilson to a charity raising boxing match. A’s fan “Nick” [...]
Giants Leave A’s Fans Wondering What To Do
I know I already addressed this issue in a previous piece earlier this month, but the San Francisco Giants are really starting to drive me nuts. The Giants have the Philadelphia Phillies within one game of elimination, and that’s really disturbing to me for some reason. While I can’t discredit the Giants’ stellar pitching staff, the team was not a big pre-season favorite to make it the World Series. While they have yet to do so, the team is pretty much on the verge of sending Philly home packing. But my argument has nothing to do with the Giants-Phillies, but [...]
An A’s Fan’s Guide To A Boring Off-Season
Now that the playoffs are in full-swing, it’s time to take a step back and just enjoy America’s past-time. The A’s, who finished the season with a .500 record (for the first time since the 2006 season), are sadly not in the playoffs, but don’t despair A’s fans! While the A’s might not be playing in the post-season, there are a few things to do during this off-season. #1. Watch the MLB Playoffs: Sure, the A’s might not be in it, but baseball is still enjoyable to watch (at least to me it is). The Yankees (ugh) advanced to the [...]
