Oakland Athletics Take First Two Games Of Bay Bridge Series

Holding leads is always a concern for the Oakland Athletics, who allowed some runs from the San Francisco Giants in Game 2 of the Bay Bridge Series. However, the A’s ended up with a 13-11 win before heading back to the Coliseum for the last two games.

There was not much to say about the pitching matchup as both pitchers would be labeled as “average.” Albert Suarez exited in the sixth inning, which was too soon. Kendall Graveman left around the same time and was replaced by pinch-hitter Billy Butler.

The Giants wasted no time. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third, as Brandon Crawford doubled to score Angel Pagan and Buster Posey. Despite the A’s cutting the lead in half on Khris Davis‘ 19th home run of the season, San Francisco went ahead 4-1, thanks to Pagan’s ground ball single to right.

Fortunately, there weren’t any major issues with the A’s lineup. The A’s cleared the bases with a two-strike, two-out at-bat. Stephen Vogt hit a double into left center, where Jed Lowrie and Davis scored to make it a one-run game.

Errors definitely affected the Giants. The Giants allowed two runs in the bottom of the fourth. As if that wasn’t enough, Butler hit a two-run single on a ground ball to score Vogt and Marcus Semien for a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Then, Denard Span‘s RBI double tied the ballgame 5-5. Span also put a runner on third base in the process. The A’s bullpen had to find their groove again. Brandon Crawford came through with a bases cleared triple that allowed Jarrett Parker, Span and Posey to score. The Giants went ahead 8-5.
