Oakland Athletics Roundup: Prospects Shine in Fall Stars Game; Targeting David Murphy

Oakland Athletics Roundup: Sunday, November 8

The Oakland Athletics had a trio of prospects in Saturday night’s fall stars game. Infielder Chad Pinder started at shortstop, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout and a double play in addition to his hit. He also made an error in the field, when he bobbled a routine ground ball. Third baseman Renato Nunez had fairly quiet night, going 1-for-2 with a strikeout.

The A’s position players hardly lived up to the numbers they’ve been posting all season, but in an exhibition game, that’s okay.

The player who did impress was pitcher Sean Manaea, who started the game for the AFL East Fall Stars team. Manaea pitched just two innings, walking a batter and allowing a stolen base, then striking out four before being replaced. This included striking out the side in the second inning.

Manaea might be the best trade acquisition for the A’s in recent memory. If he can make it to the big leagues next season, it will be a huge boost to the Athletics’ rotation.

In Case You Missed It:

Should A’s Make an Offer to David Murphy?  – David Murphy is a veteran outfielder with lots of experience as both an everyday player and a bench guy. Should the A’s look to target him this winter?

More Front Office Promotions – Following their 68-win season, the A’s continued with more front office promotions. While the changes might be well-deserved, was it poor judgement to make the moves so close to such a bad year – and a year in which a portion of the coaching staff was fired?
