Oakland Athletics Roundup: Updates on Coco Crisp, Ben Zobrist and More

The Oakland Athletics have had a busy week, including plenty of transactions and a series win against the Padres. Catch up with the weekend edition of the Swingin’ A’s roundup:

Transactions and Trades:
On Friday, the Athletics designated Andy Parrino for assignment to make room on the roster for first baseman Ike Davis. Parrino had just eight plate appearances in 17 games, with a pair of walks and five strikeouts.

Davis, who had been on the disabled listed with a left quad strain since May 13, played five rehab games with Triple-A Nashville before returning to the majors. Davis had five hits in 21 at-bats, with a double and five RBIs.

Reliever Edward Mujica gave up a grand slam in his first appearance after returning from the DL on Friday. Previously, Mujica had pitched two games with the Stockton Ports on his rehab assignment, striking out four in two perfect innings of work. To make room for Mujica, reliever Arnold Leon was optioned to the Sounds again.

Around the Minors
Last week, Oakland activated A.J. Griffin and optioned him to Nashville to begin his return to the major leagues. Griffin, who had been on the 60-day disabled list after having Tommy John surgery last season, has not pitched well so far. In two outings, he’s allowed seven runs – including an astonishing five home runs in less than eight innings.

Double-A Midland will send eight future Athletics to the Texas League All-Star Game, including top prospect Matt Olson. Five of the players were originally voted in, while three others will serve as alternates for players who have already been called up and can no longer participate.
