The Oakland Athletics and Super Sunday

Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday, a day to relax with your favorite beverage, eat some snacks and yell mercilessly at the television. Super Sunday has everything. First off, it’s the biggest football game of the year, and even though many fans in the Bay Area don’t necessarily care who wins, that shouldn’t hurt the ratings. But what does this Sunday’s football game have to do with baseball? Once the game is over, it’s officially time for everyone to start looking ahead towards Opening Day.

On February 8th the Oakland Athletics will be holding their FanFest, which will be a great chance for fans (and players) to meet all of the new players on the roster. It’s going to be a very exciting day!

What else is the Super Bowl known for? Commercials. Once the A’s get to camp, they’ll start filming commercials of their own, which are eagerly anticipated year after year by A’s fans. My all-time favorite is still Ben Grieve jumping on a hotel bed with Stomper.

After Sunday, all focus will turn to baseball. Even ESPN has started covering the game a little more of late, with some of their writers releasing their top prospects lists. If ESPN is covering baseball, you know football is almost over.

In just a few weeks pitchers and catchers report to their new home in Mesa, and will play their first Spring Training game on March 3rd against the Giants. Baseball is almost here fans! Just sit back tomorrow, enjoy some brews, and give some high-fives.

Regardless of the outcome in tomorrow’s game, we’re all winners because Oakland Athletics baseball will be on the way. It just seems fitting that the Super Bowl is keeping Arizona warm for us.
