A Chat with Chris Bassitt

Chris Bassittis a new member of the Oakland Athletics organization after being traded from the White Sox in the Jeff Samardjiza trade. Less concerned with starting or relieving, Bassitt wants to win and he’s ready to make his mark in the Oakland organization.
Drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2011, Chris Bassitt has spent the entirety of his minor league career in the White Sox farm system and got the call in 2014, appearing in six games, five of which were starts. His major league numbers, minimal as they are, had him at a 3.94 ERA with 21 K’s in 29.2 innings.

His minor league numbers offer a much larger sample size and exhibit exactly why the A’s were willing to trade a top tier pitcher for a young, unproven arm. In the minors, Bassitt started 44 games and held his ERA down to 2.84 over 318 innings. In those innings he struck out 235, walked 138 and managed to grab five saves in the process.
The right handed pitcher shows great potential and is clearly a good team player that will fit in well with the Oakland team. He took a few minutes out of his day to chat with the podcast today (our first player!) and provided some good insight into the pitchers dislike for lost of K’s.
After that, Tony was joined by Jason and they spoke for 90+ minutes about a variety of topics. 42 of those minutes were about baseball. 30 of those minutes were expletive free. 18 of those minutes were educated, researched and well thought. 2 of those minutes were funny.
