The Oakland Athletics have just suffered their first losing month since May of 2012, going 12-17 in August, culminating in a 4-game sweep at the hands of the Angels. With the sweep, the A’s now find themselves five back in the AL West with 26 to play. There was a time way back in 2012 when the A’s were 5 back with 9 to play and won the West on the final day. This season can have a very similar ending.

The Angels went 19-10 in August, but they will cool down as the playoff heat intensifies. For the Athletics, there is nowhere to go but up. After holding a closed-door meeting following Sunday’s loss, this team will be looking to rebound at home, starting on Monday against the Seattle Mariners.

Here are three reasons the Oakland Athletics will be the AL West Division Champions by the time September 28th comes to a close.
