Could Adam Dunn Come to the Athletics?

Before I start with the article, let me be clear: nothing has been reported on a move that would bring Adam Dunn to the Athletics. However, there is some room for speculation, and that is what I will do.
Yesterday, Dan Otero was sent to Sacramento. There has been no corresponding move as of yet. While it is assumed that either Kyle Blanks or Craig Gentry will be activated from the DL as the other half of this roster move, nothing has been said one way or another.

In addition to the roster move, the White Sox, Adam Dunn’s current team traded away second baseman Gordon Beckham to the Angels late Thursday night. This signals that the White Sox are willing to part with pieces. With Adam Dunn becoming a free agent after the season concludes, it’s a safe bet that they’d be willing to part with Dunn for a little in return.
Adding these pieces to the recent slide in production from the offense, and Adam Dunn could be a viable candidate for the A’s to consider as they make their push towards the postseason.
John Hickey of Bay Area News Group, quoted Billy Beane in a recent article that the Athletics are, “not on the verge of a trade.”
To A’s fans this should signal that Beane has almost certainly already made a trade and the player will be in uniform on Friday night.
Enough speculation though, let’s get down to Adam Dunn the player. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Adam Dunn is pondering retirement. If he is serious, a move to Oakland could be a great way to go out, with the Athletics looking to be in contention for a deep playoff run.
Over the course of Dunn’s career he has hit 459 round-trippers while hitting a paltry .237. On the season, Dunn has 19 dingers with 49 RBI, while batting .224. That being said, Dunn has had some success this season against the Angels, Tigers and Royals, all of which are teams the A’s could be facing in October.
Detroit: 36 ABs, 4 HR, 7 RBI, .278 BA and a .381 OBP
LAA: 16 ABs, 2 HR, 4 RBI, .250 BA, and a .333 OBP
KC: 34 ABs, 2 HR, 7 RBI, .265 and a .419 OBP
While Dunn would be a liability in the field, he would be an ideal fit at the DH spot against righties. Having Dunn slotted at DH against RHP, and Jonny Gomes, who hits .282 with a .385 OBP against southpaws, would be a very viable lineup for the Athletics moving forward.
There has been no news on the subject, but Adam Dunn is someone worth checking in on.
