After taking three games of a four-game series against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, the River Cats began a series against the Oklahoma City Redhawks.
Highlighting the three victories against the Sky Sox was the pitching of Drew Pomeranz. Against Colorado, Pomeranz pitched six innings, giving up five hits and one run while striking out an impressive nine batters. The former Oakland Athletics pitcher has smashed through the competition in AAA. So far, he’s 3-0 in his seven starts for Sacramento with a 2.88 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP. Pom Pom has also struck out seven or more in five of his seven starts and has K’d five or more in all of them.
Pomeranz has also only given up more than two runs once in his starts, with that coming against Albuquerque on July 17.
As well as the great starts by Pomeranz, reliever Philip Humber picked up two wins, both against Colorado. Aside from allowing three earned runs against Las Vegas, Humber has been spectacular, boastiung a 2.25 ERA in his last ten appearances. Since Aug. 5, Humber hasn’t given up a run, pitching six scoreless innings.
Hitting Performance of the Week: Shane Peterson went 2 for 4 with a double and a HR against Oklahoma City.
