Let’s Pack the Park Athletics’ Fans

How long has it been since you smelled the grass, climbed the concrete stairs or had a ballpark hot dog while taking in a baseball game? If you’re like me, any amount of time has been too long.

The Oakland Athletics are having yet another fantastic season, and hold baseball’s best record. The problem? Their attendance numbers rank 24th overall, averaging 23,461 per game. That is right about 67% capacity for O.Co. This is up just 3.2% from last year. While it’s nice that more fans are coming out to the games, the Athletics should be selling out nearly every game. What we would like to do is show that we support our team. No fireworks, no bobbleheads and no gimmicks. Just baseball. The real national pastime.

A’s fans get a lot of grief for the A’s attendance woes, regardless of how the team is doing. If we can come together for one night, it may just quiet some of the doubters. The date we have decided on is Friday, August 8th at 7pm. We picked a Friday because we’re aware people have to work, and this gives them the opportunity to take in a game afterwards. The A’s already do well in attendance on the weekends, so planning to pack the park on a Saturday or Sunday wouldn’t be as much of an accomplishment.

The A’s are playing the Minnesota Twins, having done very well against the Twins in recent memory. While there may not be any fireworks after the game, the ones provided for 9 innings should suffice.

Early August is also when the playoff races start to heat up, and when it becomes vital to support your team, especially against a team they should beat. Every game counts down the stretch.

This date is also just after the trading deadline, and could be a good opportunity for some to see a new player (if any) in an A’s uniform.

According to the A’s website, there are still tickets available in every section, ranging from $5-$52. If you’re coming in a large group, the bleachers are general admission and may be your best bet to sit near each other without buying all of the tickets yourself.

The link above will take you to the A’s site to purchase tickets. Never been to O.Co? Here is the link to directions.

Already have tickets? Take a picture with them and tweet it to us @FS_SwinginAs, using the hashtag #PackThePark. We’ll retweet them!

Filling O.Co is going to take some work, but with the A’s playing as well as they have been this season, it’s time we showed the team that we want them here in Oakland playing in front of the best fans in baseball. #PackThePark.
