Kyle Blanks to DL, Reddick to Fill Roster Spot

Bob Melvin just told 95.7, the flagship radio station of the Oakland Athletics, that Kyle Blanks, who has suffered a calf strain, will be moved to the disabled list.  As terrible as this is for Blanks, it postpones management from having to make a tough decision about their roster this week; how do they get Reddick back on?  Blanks’ move to the DL will open up a spot on the roster, much like Reddick’s DL stint opened up a spot for Ryan Cook, and prevent a force out of any key players.

During his rehab assignment this week, Reddick has hit .438 in four games.  We’ve seen these types of numbers from Reddick before with varying degrees of success exchanging those stats to a major league ball park but his gold-glove in right has been missed and if he can return and bat in the .250 region, he’ll be a great addition back to the lineup.

Reddick keep hitting like you have been in your rehab.

Yeah right! We can wish but it won’t happen!!! Having Reddick gone has been great! Not that I wish injury on any player ever but not having him in the lineup has been A LOT better than having him around … with Cespy, Coco, Gentry and Vogt … shit and Moss – all of whom hit better than Reddick – I think the outfield has been very well covered! I’d hate to see him bring his crappy bat back but it’s inevitable. I know, I’m not being supportive which in some minds makes me a bad fan but it’s just my opinion on what is better for the team as a whole. Sure he’s hitting well in 4 rehab games, he hit well for a couple games after changing his walk up song but it didn’t last very long. I don’t trust his bat (but don’t worry I won’t be booing him or anything. I do disagree with booing our own) … but man, I’ve felt a lot less stress with him gone – I’d actually almost forgotten he’d be back …. damn, No matter what though – Let’s Go Oakland!!!

Has his glove REALLY been missed and if so when? I’m not being mean but seriously?? Like when? Gentry, Vogt, a lot of guys have great arms and have made great plays in the outfield. I literally haven’t even noticed Reddick’s absence except for the fact that I would bet the team’s batting average on the whole is better!

I wonder if Josh is on the trade market? With all the others stepping up, I just wonder if josh gets traded.

I doubt it. He doesn’t put up the kind of numbers at the plate that make him a commodity.
