Kyle Blanks to DL, Reddick to Fill Roster Spot

Bob Melvin just told 95.7, the flagship radio station of the Oakland Athletics, that Kyle Blanks, who has suffered a calf strain, will be moved to the disabled list.  As terrible as this is for Blanks, it postpones management from having to make a tough decision about their roster this week; how do they get Reddick back on?  Blanks’ move to the DL will open up a spot on the roster, much like Reddick’s DL stint opened up a spot for Ryan Cook, and prevent a force out of any key players.

During his rehab assignment this week, Reddick has hit .438 in four games.  We’ve seen these types of numbers from Reddick before with varying degrees of success exchanging those stats to a major league ball park but his gold-glove in right has been missed and if he can return and bat in the .250 region, he’ll be a great addition back to the lineup.
