Oakland Athletics Opening Day at Risk of Rainout

On Saturday the Oakland Athletics had to cancel the final exhibition game in the bay bridge series due to heavy rain. It was to be the first game the O.co this year, but fans would have to wait until opening day to see their Oakland Athletics take the field at home. Now that may not even happen.

The forecasts in Oakland are calling for rainfall this evening, running through game time. The Athletics have a sellout crowd to start the season, so it would be very disappointing to both the team and the fans to have to cancel the game.

Even if the game doesn’t get rained out, there is a strong possibility the crowd won’t feel like a sellout one, because a lot of people may stay home thinking the game may be cancelled and the trip would be a waste of time and money. So even if we do get to watch some Oakland A’s baseball tonight, it won’t feel as electric as a sellout crowd on opening day.

Then there is the risk of Coliseum malfunctions. We know that with heavy rain usually comes sewage issues, like on Saturday when the heavy rained caused plumping issues and the coaches room began to flood from it’s bathroom. It’s bad enough these issues happened last season but to happen again on opening day? It just goes to show they need a new home fast.

As of now, the staff is hoping still be able to play the game tonight, and have said that they plan to, but sometimes mother nature doesn’t agree.
