A’s fans: we are in the stretch run. There are only a few hours left to vote for Eric Sogard as Face of MLB. Sogard is currently leading 53/47 over David Wright. If you still have votes left, use them! Last night we posted that there may be a midnight opening in the voting, where our vote count is reset to zero, and we get another 25 votes! This is the final round, so it won’t hurt to try. We don’t have to stay awake the entire night, but make sure you get your 25 votes in when the clock strikes midnight.
I would also like to call attention to the amount of support the A’s have received from the community. Warrior’s players Steph Curry and Harrison Barnes have shown support in the last few rounds, as well as many A’s players. WWE‘s Big Show joined in with the fun at Josh Reddick’s request. Bay Area native MC Hammer has even had some fun voting.
The biggest surprise was that MLB Network’s Brian Kenny started voting for Sogard. The Face of MLB is a MLB Network production. He should be unbiased. But we A’s fans have shown overwhelming support and creativity this entire competition. Brian Kenny acknowledged that and said, “We inspired him to vote #EricSogard #FaceOfMLB.” Kenny’s colleague, former Oakland fan-favorite and current Giant’s radio broadcaster Eric Byrnes even showed support for Sogard this evening. His tweet made me smile the widest. It shows his former #22 with Sogard taped over his name, and green patches of tape filling in the gaps in the second 2 to make Sogard’s #28 jersey.
Win or lose, we have brought attention to this competition. MLB Network has to be thrilled with that, even though they may not like the player who wins. The contest is a bit of a joke, but A’s fans will have the last laugh when their player, #EricSogard becomes the #FaceofMLB.
