This is, after all, a guy who has a history with health problems. If he is healthy, the A's should be able to get a couple of effective starts out of the guy this year. He did have a rough season with Texas last year, as his K/9 rate declined from 10.92 in 2009 to 7.34, but I do believe that he's still got something to offer to this team. His biggest problem last season was his control, and if he can fix his mechanical problems, he should be fine. He lost a little speed on his fastball last year, but if he's fully-healthy, I say give him a shot in the rotation. The A's definitely need all the help they can get at this point.
