Dave,

I couldn't agree more. I really don't see Cust in the A's plans anymore, and the team really needs a power hitting DH. Eric Chavez, Jake Fox, and Cust failed to do anything this year, but adding a guy like Berkman could help the A's out on offense next year. Berkman, 34, is getting up there in age, and while it'd be foolish to hope for a Frank Thomas '06 type season out of Berkman, I still think he'd add something to a rather punchless A's lineup. If the A's get Beltre, and another bat (like Berkman's) then watch out. The A's have strong starting pitching. All they need is a solid supporting lineup.

Thanks for the comment and read, Dave!

I'd prefer Berkman over Cust anyday. Cust just looks to walk too much. I want my DH to be a "HITTER" not a table setter. The A's bigest problem is they look to walk before they look to driving the ball. This Bill Beane hitting philosphy is killing our run production! We are not agressive enough. How many times do we have to watch a fastball right down the middle get taken for a stike only to swing at a slider for strike 3 just out of the zone? Berkman will reboun. He was recovering from an injury most of the year. He's a solid veetern who know how to drive in runs. If we can sign Betre I'd trade kouse and Wurtz and Barton for The Padres first baseman. Maybe through in a low level minor leaguer too.
