A’s Update: Andrew Bailey Injured, & Other Spring Notes

According the Oakland A’s official website, the reigning AL ROY, Andrew Bailey is dealing with a minor injury that is expected to keep him out about a week or so. Also fighting the injury bug is fellow reliever, Craig Breslow. Breslow pitched well out of the bullpen last season, going 7-5 with a 2.60 ERA in 55.1 innings with the A’s.
The relievers are still expected to be ready by Opening Day, but they will continue to be closely monitored in order to prevent future complications.
In other news, Justin Duchscherer, threw 45 pitches in an intrasquad minor league game. Duchscherer, who did not play in 2009, is hoping that he’ll be ready by Opening Day. The A’s are also hoping that Duchscherer will return to his 2008 form, where he went 10-8 with a 2.54 ERA.
A’s reliever, Joey Devine is dealing with tendinitis in his repaired right arm and is trying to get himself by Opening Day. Devine who pitched exceptionally well for the A’s in 2008, did not play in 2009.
A’s reliever, Michael Wuertz is also dealing with injury problems. Wuertz has yet to throw in a spring training game, but he hopes to in the near future. According to the A’s, Wuertz should be ready come Opening Day. Whether the A’s will be successful or not depends on a couple of things—including the bullpen.
A’s Eric Chavez is continuing his comeback bid, and so far, he’s making significant strides in his attempt to return healthy in 2010.
Reports are saying that former A’s player, Chris Denorfia ,is performing well out in San Diego Camp.
